A God Wink from a Mouse?

Psalms 145:13-21

The Lord is faithful in all his words, and gracious in all his deeds.  The Lord upholds all who are falling, and raises up all who are bowed down.  They eyes of all look to thee, and thou givest them their food in due season.  Thou openest thy hand, thou satisfiest the desire of every living thing.  The Lord is just in all his ways, and kind in all his doings.  The Lord is near to all who call upon him, to all who call upon him in truth.  He fulfills the desire of all who fear him, he also hears their cry, and saves them.  The Lord preserves all who love him; but all the wicked he will destroy.  My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord, and let all flesh bless him holy name for ever and ever.

Thought for the Day:  Where will God “wink” at you today?

Our youngest son wanted to go to a particular place to celebrate his birthday.  So, we set the time that would be best for our family and walked in.  We ordered our pizza and the coins that are used to play the games and earn tickets for prizes.  As we waited for the pizza, the boys played some games and I filled out an online survey about our visit in order to get extra coins for our next visit.  I gave a middle of the road rating and quickly closed the website.  We watched the count down until “the mouse” made his appearance.  Our child was so excited.  When the “mouse creature” walked past, Jonathan waved and waved, but the mouse didn’t acknowledge him and walked straight by.  In that moment, we saw tears well up and Jonathan laid his head down in his brother’s lap.  He then refused to go over with “the mouse” as he danced with the children.  I saw his little dreams of hugging that mouse fade into tears of sadness.  Broken hearted, my husband and I looked at each other as if to say, “Now, what do we do?”  Our oldest son talked Jonathan into playing a few more games to try to cheer him up, and it helped.

God then stepped in out of the blue in the most unexpected way.  My cell phone rang as my husband and I sat watching the boys, still unsure how to make him feel better and baffled by the dilemma.  “Is this Mrs. Locke?” I just received the results of the online survey you filled out and was wondering why you gave us low scores.”  I explained to her that I really didn’t mean to give low scores, that I intended them to be in the middle, however, I was able to explain to her what happened with my son.  She explained that the costume does not allow for the person inside to see well and that more than likely “the mouse” didn’t see Jonathan.  She quickly asked, “Are you still in the store?  I want to make this right.”  A few minutes later, the young lady came and found my son and led him back to “the mouse’s home”.  The mouse came out and gave the biggest hug to Jonathan along with a stuffed animal as a gift for him. After that, and in the mouse’s next appearance, Jonathan was all smiles following him over to the other children and giving a famous “Jonathan Hug” to him as he finished his “show”.  My husband and I sat in awe as we witnessed this because we had absolutely no control of what had just taken place – it was all God.  Today, I am thankful for a huge “God Wink” that took place right in front of our eyes and for the young lady who jumped in to “make things right.”

Prayer:  God, thank you for sending us help when I do not know what to do next.  You work through people around us to bring the answers we need in our dilemmas in life.  Help us to see You in the answers to prayers and in situations we cannot control.  You are awesome God!  Thanks for the “God Winks” you send our way.  Amen.

    1. Thanks, Mrs. Naomi! I am enjoying the writing and it does seem that the life lived in our Locke household gives me a lot of material to choose from as I write. Love you! You are very special to me.
