Galatians 5:1

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand fast therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

Thought for the Day:  Remember those who fought and died for our freedom.

July Fourth!  Independence Day!  Today, I feel a special privilege to write as an American who has enjoyed freedom because of so many who have gone before.  So many have protected our families and have given their lives for us.  As our pastor preached on Sunday, he spoke specifically about several World War II Prisoners of War.  At one point he said that those in prison dreamed about waking up to the smells and tastes of kitchens back home.  They prayed to be back in that wonderful place someday.  He also mentioned that there were those back home that looked to an empty seat and prayed for their loved ones to come back home.  Then, I visualized those mothers of young men who went off to war and never came home.  The thought of watching a son go off to war is unimaginable to me, but millions have done it.  Many years ago, I heard and then sang the song by Twila Paris, “What Did He Die For” that has always touched me.  I want to share those words with you.  Today, remember who died for you and why.

What Did He Die For? by Twila Paris

He was twenty-one in 1944.  He was hope, and He was courage on a lonely shore.   Sent there His mother with love beyond Her tears.   Just a young American who chose to rise above His fears

And as I watch Him struggle up that hill,  Without a thought of turning back I cannot help but wonder

What did He die for when He died for you and me? Made the sacrifice so that we could all be free.  I believe we will answer each to Heaven, For the way we spend a priceless liberty

Look inside and ask the question, “What did he die for when he died for me?”

To the darkest day in A.D. 33, Came the mercy and compassion of eternity.   Sent there by a Father with love beyond His tears.  Blameless One, the only Son to bear the guilt of all these years.

And as I watch Him struggle up that hill, Without a thought of turning back I cannot help but wonder:

What did He die for when He died for you and me? Made the sacrifice so that we could all be free.  I believe we will answer each to Heaven For the way we spend a priceless liberty.

Look inside and ask the question, “What did he die for?”

He died for freedom, He died for love.   And all the things we do to pay Him back Could never be enough.

What did He die for when He died for you and me? Made the sacrifice so that we could all be free.  I believe we will answer each to Heaven For the way we spend a priceless liberty Look inside and ask the question, “What did he die for when He died for me?”

Prayer:  God, today I am thankful to all the men and women who fought for our freedom, and those who gave their life so we would be free.  We have been blessed beyond imagination at the love of these.  I am thankful that Jesus Christ gave his life for us bringing us forgiveness.  We have been blessed beyond imagination and beyond anything we will ever know by Your love.  Thank you.  Amen.
