Praying for a Miracle

Psalms 107:28-30

Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress; he made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad because they had quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven.

Thought for the Day:  God wants to hear our urgent prayers, and He wants to answer

Sitting outside on the patio as I pray and listen for God is a wonderful way of hearing Him through the quiet. Today, as I sit taking in the sounds of the day, I hear the far off sound of a train many miles away. As my mind goes to another prayer or thought, the train sound leaves my mind even though the train is still traveling the track toward our town. A few moments later, the sound once again is heard but this time it pierces through the space as if it is an urgent warning for me to hear. The urgency for the train is to give warning about its approach. The urgency for me is my reminder that God is with me in the quiet, but also is with me when I have an urgent need or prayer. Today happens to be a day when I have prayed for a miracle. As I listen to the train horn, I feel a need to pray hard and to ask God for what I need.

God wants us to pray and talk to Him in all moments of our lives. We pray for friends who are going through hard times, for our Church that God will continually uplift It to new heights, for our world that God will be there in the hearts of people, and He wants us to pray urgently for what we need in our personal lives. What do we need to pray for today – how do we pray for our urgent need?

Prayer:   God, please be with those hurting today that they may feel Your peace. Help our church continue to hear Your voice and to hear Your message through the ministers and members. Please be with the hurting souls around the world to know that You are in their presence. And, today, Lord, please bring the miracles to those who need to experience them today. We love You God, and today we cry out like that train horn for the miracle we need. Amen.

Prayer Focus: THOSE PRAYING FOR A MIRACLE

  1. Speaking of miracles, I visited Somerville FUMC yesterday and they baptized a little girl, Lorelai Rose. I saw your post to Joe Shelton that you like to hear stories of your Dad. Every time I see a baby christened, I picture your Dad walking the baby around the sanctuary holding them up for every one to see. Praying that God brings you your miracle! Keep on writing. I have enjoyed reading your devotions! – Jackie Taylor Johnson

    1. Jackie, thank you for that memory. You should have seen my Daddy when he baptized Nathaniel. The words he expressed to the congregation about the responsibility they had for this precious baby. If anyone sitting in that moment didn’t understand their obligation to the little ones, they weren’t listening. I think that might have been his favorite part of ministry – to baptize those sweet babies. I am proud for you and your family….such sweetness abounds. Thanks for your sweet words – Love you!
