Take My Hand Precious Lord

(This devotion was shared originally in July of 2015)

Psalms 73:23-24

Nevertheless I am continually with thee; thou dost hold my right hand. Thou dost guide me with thy counsel, and afterward thou wilt receive m to glory.

Thought for the Day: Take my hand, Precious Lord, Lead me on

“Precious Lord, take my hand. Lead me on, help me stand. I am tired, I am weak, I am lone. Through the storm, through the night, Lead me on to the light. Take my hand precious Lord, lead me home.” I have recently heard from several friends of the struggles they are going through in their lives right now. Some are struggling with decisions that need to be made in job positions. Some have parents and spouses who are going through health issues and concerns. Some are watching their children go off to college for the first time. And some are just trying to carry on. As I contemplated what I was going to write about this morning, the words to “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” came to my mind. I love the image I visualize when I hear these words. I can clearly visualize God in a fatherly form, reaching down to take my hand. I feel Him pull me up with His strength to a standing position. Then, I feel Him put his arm around my body to hold me up and I have no thought of falling because His arm is so secure. I see Him point to a light some distance away. When I say, “God, I can’t make it that far”, He says, “No, you can’t make it alone but I am here and with My help you will make it through.”

Wow, does this thought make you feel at peace as it did to me when I visualized this in my mind this morning? The wonderful thing about it is that it is not just a visualization of God because it is real. God does reach down to take our hand, He does pull us up when we are down, He does put His arm around us, and He does help us through our situations. There is no need to just imagine, because this is real for us every day.

Prayer:   God, thank you for always being present with us. Thank you for pulling us up when we are down and for helping us through our struggles. Help me today, Lord, to acknowledge that it is You who is always with me. I have an awesome God. Amen.
