For the kingdom of God is not food and drink but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit; he who thus serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men. Let us then pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.
Thought for the Day: What can I do today to bring happiness to God?
Thinking about things that bring me peace and happiness were my thoughts as I woke up this morning. Feeling my husband’s hand reach over in the night to hold my hand brings me happiness. Reading words my husband writes about our relationship makes me happy. Seeing my child dance and sing in his silly way as he puts on pants that are way too large for him brings me happiness. Listening to that same child reading one book after another showing me his reading skills brings me happiness. Listening to my oldest child telling about his school day and the exciting science project he did in class brings me happiness. Listening to him practice his trumpet brings me more happiness. There are other things that bring me that same feeling such as listening to my children’s choir sing, walking in the beautiful sunshine, singing in our chancel choir rehearsals, and listening to a dynamic sermon. Happiness comes through being with God.
As a wife and parent, I realize that happiness comes from my family and the things we do together or talk about together. My happiness comes from them. God is our parent, oh yes, He is our loving and faithful father. What brings our “Dad” happiness? His happiness comes from us, His children, and the way we spend our time with Him. Listening to us as we respond to the beauty He puts in front of us brings Him happiness. Listening to us as we tell Him what is going on in our lives brings us happiness. Hearing our prayers as we give him praise and thanksgiving gives Him happiness. So often, I am guilty of begging God for things I think I need and I do not thank Him as I should. I do to Him as my children do to me and ask Him for a lot. When I thought about what brings me happiness as a wife and parent, it did not come from the things my children ask of me. Happiness came from daily life and enjoyment. God wants us to enjoy life and He wants us to enjoy being with Him. I want to make God happy by being with Him. I want to be with God.
Prayer: Father, today we praise Your name. We thank You for all You have done for us. You are all wonderful and loving. Help us, Lord, to learn to “be” with You better and to spend our time with our Father. We want to spend time with You today. Amen.
