“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or the plants of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind. Does not the ear try words as the palate tastes? Wisdom is with the aged, and understanding in length of days.
Thought for the Day: Always see God around you
Walking a new path brings new and interesting views. Walking my normal route that goes around a lake and within a wooded area has been beautiful for me, especially as the autumn has come to begin coloring the leaves in magnificent color. I decided after walking that path a few times to go another direction where there is more of a meadow walk. It was so beautiful, in a different way, and the walk was refreshing. At one point, I came upon a path that leads to the normal path. I decided to walk that path to see exactly where it led to the other path. It was gorgeous as it led me through woods. As I walked I heard the scurrying of little animal feet around me, I saw squirrels chasing each other, I viewed the beauty of the sun peeking through the tree limbs, and I smelled the beautiful aroma of nature. As I walked, I also noticed that the downhill path was refreshing and so very easy. I breathed in and breathed out. As I walked that distance, there was that thought in the back of my mind, “To get to my car I will have to walk up where I just walked down.” I continued walking that easy road, though, because I really wanted to see where it met the other path. The deeper I walked the more beautiful it became. Then I arrived and looked around for a few minutes. Finally, I turned around and began the walk back up. Interestingly, I found myself wanting to take more pictures of the woods and the beautiful things in nature. (I wonder if those walking by really thought I was stopping to take pictures, or if they knew I was taking pictures to rest my worn body as I tried to walk back up that path). I made it back to my car, feeling great that I had taken the challenge and feeling proud that I made it through the challenge.
Reflecting on that time, I realize how refreshed I felt when I finished my walk and how I was able to see beauty in a different way. I remember praying as I walked down that easy path, chatting with God about where He is leading me. I remember asking for His help as I was walking back up. Lastly, I remember saying “Thank you, God!” when I made it to the top. That walk brought me closer to God because it was different, it brought thoughts of the beauty during the leisure walk down the hill, it brought prayer for help as I was walking up the hill, and it brought me prayers of thanks as I made it through.
Prayer: God, thank you for blessing us in so many ways as we take in nature. You are gracious and true, and You do help us through our circumstances. Lord, help us find opportunities to experience You more. Amen.
