Whither shall I go from thy Spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend to heaven, thou art there! If I make my bed in Sheol, thou art there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there thy hand shall lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
Thought for the Day: God is always with us.
As I picked up my camera before heading to the park with my boys, I had no idea what images would be “keepers” and which ones would be deleted. When taking pictures of the children, I never really know. As I was taking the pictures of them playing and acting silly, I looked up to see the vague image of the moon in the dusk sky. I began taking pictures of the moon and the trees as the sun was about to set. I looked up a few minutes later, as darkness had come, and the beauty of the moon was something magnificent. I began taking pictures with my camera, hoping for one shot. An hour later, after I slipped the photo card into my computer, one stood out and I shared it on Facebook. One of my friends remarked, “Hey, we have that one in Jacksonville (FL), too!” I replied, “Oh, I thought it was put there just for us.” Two wonderful friends, two places, seeing and experiencing the same moon in the sky. What a glorious thought. A few minutes later, another friend wrote, “Great picture. Hard to see in Lexington, TN, because of clouds and fog.” Two wonderful friends, two places, one experiencing the moon in a clear sky and one experiencing the moon hidden from view because of the clouds. The beautiful full moon was there for all of us, but some experienced it more clearly.
Reflecting on that beautiful moon that is always in the sky, whether we can see it clearly or not, made me think about God. There are days, we can feel He is right beside us and can almost see His face clearly in the people around us. He is there and He is clear to us. There are other days, however, when we can’t seem to see him so clearly because of clouds and fog in our thoughts and circumstances. We wonder, “Are you still there, God?” We know, just as we know the moon is there whether we can see it or not, that God is there and He wants us to see Him. We just have to acknowledge that something is blocking Him from view and we need to clear that “something” in order to see Him clearly. Three wonderful friends, three places, all “see” the same God when we look through the clouds.
Prayer: Father God, thank you for always being there. Thank you for always being as close to us as our next breath. Help us each day to clear thoughts that keep us from seeing you clearly. Amen.
