“Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
Thought for the Day: God is the best ‘Daddy’ in the world
“Mama, you are the best Mama in the world!” Oh, to hear my child say those words. In attending a parent/teacher conference with my youngest child’s teacher, I was shown a writing where my little boy described an event that happened to him. There was a scooter, a fall, a scraped hand, and a description of how I helped him through the injury. I had almost forgotten the fall, as we have had many more serious injuries since, but he wrote about this one. As we sat on the front stoop the day after I was shown his writing, he said, “Mama, you are the best Mama in the world!” I asked him why he said that and he replied, “Because when I fell off my scooter and scraped my hand, you took me in and fixed it.” I looked at him and he was looking at me and smiling. In that moment, I felt so much love from that little guy. That love in that moment was so pure and so innocent. That love was real.
As I thought about this precious conversation, I realized that I am very much the same way with God. When I want something and I don’t get it in the way I want, I get frustrated with God. When I feel things should be going differently, and I pray, but things don’t change, I don’t appreciate God as much as I should. When I yell at God and say I want things to change, and they don’t, I might even get mad at God. Yes, I do all these things. But then, something happens and we see God carry us up in His arms and take care of our “wounds”. That’s when we say, “God, you’re the best ‘Daddy’ in the world.” When my little boy smiled at me in that moment, it was the most special smile I had ever seen. I wonder how God feels when we smile at Him and say, “God, you’re the best ‘Daddy’ in the world.”
Prayer: God, you’re the best daddy in the world! Thank you for all you give us and do for us every day, even when we do not see it. Thank you for the times you have lifted us up from the bottom to a place of comfort. Thank you mostly for being You. You are our almighty and everlasting God, Amen.
