I Can See Jesus in You

1 John 4:15-17

Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.  So we know and believe the love God has for us.  God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

Thought for the Day:   God abides in Us.

“I Can Jesus in You” is a Twila Paris song from twenty years ago.  I sang along with that song and took in the words as they reflected how we see our brothers and sisters in Christ and how we hope they see us.  During a Bible Study I attended recently, the subject came up about how God has appeared to us through people, most of the time showing up unexpectedly at a time we needed them.  Most of us in attendance, I am sure, thought back over our lives at times someone showed up out of the blue giving us the exact words of encouragement or giving us exactly what we needed to fulfill a need in our lives.  Throughout my life, I have been blessed by many who I know were sent by God to show me his love and faithfulness to me.  “I wanted to let you know that I feel something is coming for you soon that is better than you have imagined”, “God has placed the thought in my mind to contact you to let you know that He is with you”, “I have had a strong feeling that you are to publish and these are the reasons…”, and “God has this, girl”.  As people contact me, especially when several contact me at the same time, I feel strongly that God is contacting me through them.  In those moments, I know and feel that God is near.

As I pray with the children in my children’s choir and in other groups, one of the things I pray is, “God, help us know what to do so that someone can see Jesus on my face”.  When I think of what shows “Jesus” in us I think of a smile as we pass someone in a hallway or store, a word of hope as we see someone who looks down, a “God Bless” as we meet someone new, a meal for someone who is ill or who has lost a loved one, an invitation to meet someone for coffee if we feel they need to talk, and so many other ways that just come as God works through us.  “I Can See Jesus in You” are words I think clearly when I meet someone who has their heart obviously focused on God.  “I Can See Jesus You” are words I want people to think of me as I learn more and more each day to focus my heart on God.

Prayer:  God, my awesome God!  Thank you for all the people who have shown You to us.  You have appeared through friends, family, and new acquaintances.  Help us Lord, to see opportunities to be “Jesus” to someone in need today. We love You.  Amen.
