The Bible Study

Matthew 18:20

“For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

Thought for the Day:   Feel God’s presence as you go through this day.

Walking into a room for a Ladies Bible Study was hard for me.  As much as I love reading and writing devotions, reading God’s Word, listening to sermons, and taking in the emotional side of His music, I struggle walking into a group anywhere.  I parked my car and looked over toward the building where the Bible Study was about to take place.  I saw groups of women talking, women helping other women with their children, and women walking into the building with their cute outfits and shoes.  I went in the building, signed in, and went directly to a chair and sank down into its comfort.  As I did, I heard fun conversations as the women talked of the refreshments, coffee, devotional books, and of their children.  I listened as I sat nervously waiting for the Study to begin.  As the leaders began in prayer and in talk about how the Bible Study was going to work, my nerves eased as they spoke.  Then, we introduced ourselves.  As I listened to each woman as they told about themselves, I realized that we were all different and we were all alike.  Ages in the group ranged from mid- twenties with new babies up to sixties who talked about their grandchildren.  I also realized that every woman there had stresses in their lives but every reason for the stress was a little different.  Then I realized that we were all in this together and studying the Bible Study book together was going to bring everyone closer together in the coming weeks, and that this is a place where I will make friends that could last the rest of my life.  The place became Holy Ground, Holy Ground because God was present for everyone there.

Where is our Holy Ground?  Where do we go to feel God’s presence?  Are we standing on Holy Ground as we go to Worship Services and listen to the music and sermon?  Are we standing on Holy Ground as we share time with children in Children’s Choirs?  Are we standing on Holy Ground as we teach Sunday School or work with children for other programs?  Were we standing on Holy Ground as those twenty or so women shared about the stresses they have in their lives?  In Matthew 18:20, Jesus said, “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them”.  In that hour during that time of sharing, we were definitely gathered in His name as we were in His presence.

Prayer:  God, You are awesome!  You are with us in every moment of our lives and we are thankful.  Thank you for meeting our daily needs and for giving us new friends to share time with.  Be with us as we go through this day and help us feel Your presence in our hearts.  You are there, You are present.  Amen.

Prayer Focus:  Those looking for Holy Ground
