“These things I have spoken to you, while I am still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Peace, I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
Thought for the Day: In all areas of life, come to Jesus.
Waking at 4:35 on a Saturday morning after I had set the alarm clock for 7:00, I found myself unable to fall back to sleep so I got out of bed and made my coffee. Opening my computer, thinking I would write my devotional early, seemed to only offer me a blank page with no hope of being filled. I began reading through the last few weeks of devotions in “Jesus Calling” to trigger some extra hope that I seemed to be needing. One of the devotions I read touched me as it was based on a song by Chris Rice, “Untitled Hymn”. This very popular song is one I have listened to a lot over the past few years as it speaks to all people who need Jesus. Until today, I didn’t “get” the song, I didn’t “get” the relevance of the words. But today it touched me:
Weak and wounded sinner, Lost and left to die
O, raise your head, for love is passing by.
Come to Jesus, come to Jesus, come to Jesus and live!
Now your burden’s lifted, and carried far away
And precious blood has washed away the stain
So, sing to Jesus, sing to Jesus, sing to Jesus and live!
And like a newborn baby, don’t be afraid to crawl
And remember when you walk – sometimes you fall…
So fall on Jesus, fall on Jesus, fall on Jesus and live!
Sometimes the way is lonely, and steep and filled with pain
So if your sky is dark and pours the rain
The cry to Jesus, cry to Jesus, cry to Jesus and live!
O, and when the love spills over, and music fills the night
And when you can’t contain your joy inside,
Then dance for Jesus, dance for Jesus, dance for Jesus and live!
And with your final heartbeat, kiss the world goodbye
Then in peace, and laugh on Glory’s side
And fly to Jesus, fly to Jesus, fly to Jesus and live!
As struggles come in our lives and days come and go, we find we are searching for something. Some of those days, we have no idea what we are searching for but we know we need peace in our hearts. We need that sure peace in our hearts that God is with us. Well, God is with us. God is with us and ready for us to come to Him, sing to Him, fall on Him, dance for Him, and then finally fly to Him. Today, I will come to Jesus, sing to Jesus, fall on Jesus, cry to Jesus, and dance for Jesus. Today, I will feel the Joy as I feel His presence beside me and I will rejoice. “Come to Jesus, come to Jesus, come to Jesus….and live.”
Prayer: God, You are awesome. You know every part of our being, yet you love us through it all. You see us at our best and You see us at our worst, but yet You still love us through. Help us feel Your peace today as we remember that You are where we need to come when we need to feel peace and love. We rejoice in You today. Amen.
