Colossians 3:23-24

Whatever your task, work heartily, as serving the Lord and not men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward; you are serving the Lord Christ.

Thought for the Day:   Win the Award through Christ

Watching the games of the 2016 Olympics has been exciting and thrilling in so many ways.  It makes me wonder how it feels to be your very best and then to stand on top of the podium to receive a medal.  But, then, I think about those who have no possibility of winning a medal but they still go out and do their very best.  God has blessed us all with different talents, some that are medal worthy and some that no one will ever see and no one will win any award for.  But, wait a minute, if you do your very best at a talent that God has given you, you already are a winner.  If you show Christ to those around you in the things you do, you are already in the winners’ circle.  The Olympics brings to the forefront those gold, silver, and bronze medal winners who make the national and world news.  The Olympics also places athletes on the world stage who try their hardest and show stamina in their different fields, but do not win.

There are so many talents that God gives us as we go through life, and if we use those talents and share them with others, we wear a precious medal around our neck.  When I look around me at church and see the “Kitchen Angels” who make meals for the staff and then cook Wednesday night meals for the church members each week, those volunteers who work in the Food Pantry each week to prepare for Saturday mornings when people come who need food, those volunteers who work with children in Sunday School and during activities, those who work with the elderly taking them meals and praying for them, and so many more who volunteer.  Then there are those who are not seen who do things that no one sees.  These are all winners and are together on the podium hearing God say, “Thank you, Good and Faithful Servant.”

Prayer:  God, thank you for all those who make up the “Church”.  Thank you for those seen and unseen sisters and brothers in Christ, who share You with others.  Help us each day to take the talents you give to glorify Your name.  We rejoice today.  Amen.

Prayer Focus:  Those who use their talents for God.
