“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”
Thought for the Day: How do we show our love to God?
“Noodles!”, “I’ve got to see Noodles!”, “Noodles is the best cat!” Each day, our family is loved on and nose nudged by our thirteen- year old orange tabby. He sleeps with one of our boys, but when he hears movement in the house he comes directly to whoever is sitting on the couch. He nudges, and even seems to kiss us by touching our noses with his. He even has a certain “Meow” when he talks to us to say “Hello!” We love on him, hug on him, and accept those sweet cold and wet nose kisses. When we come in from church or school, it seems that the boys want to see him and hug on him first before they do anything else. And, when we come home from a trip, that is the best because it is like coming home to a family member and we just can’t wait to see him. As we begin our drive home, we will hear one of the boys say, “I can’t wait to see Noodles.”
This morning, as I sat on the couch before the boys awoke, Noodles quickly jumped up in front of me on the couch. He said “Hello” and then nudged me to get my attention. I spent a few minutes with him and then he lay on the couch in front of me content and ready to nap. Thinking about that relationship we have with our precious cat made me think this morning about how we should be in our relationship with God. Noodles comes to us first thing in the morning just to be present with us. Noodles comes to us when he his hungry or needs water to ask us to fulfill his needs. Noodles lays down with us when nighttime comes where he can be close to us in the darkness of night. Isn’t this how we should be with God? Shouldn’t we come to Him as soon as we wake up to thank him for another day. Shouldn’t we come to Him when we have a need and pray that he will fulfill our needs. Shouldn’t we come to Him in the evening hours to thank Him for our day and then to rest with Him in the darkness. That is what God wants from us, and what we should want our relationship with God to be.
Prayer: Father God, thank you for the wonderful examples you show us each day that call our attention to how we should be with You. You love us and know us, and want us to come to You for everything. We love you so much for loving us. Amen.
