Go Through the Door

John 10:9

I am the door; if any one enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.

Thought for the Day:  What will you find if you just go through the door?

“Bye, Mommy”, “Bye, Daddy!”  These were the words our youngest son said as he hugged us about ten minutes before it was time to walk to the bus stop.  We said, “Well, bye baby, but it’s not quite time to go.”  The excitement in his voice was very different than the fear through tears that his voice showed only four days before.  On the first day of school, we knew the walk to the bus and his first school bus ride was going to be difficult on our little guy, but we knew that he had to ride the bus from the beginning or he would not ever feel comfortable with it.  As predicted, he was fearful on that first day but he was a trooper and walked to meet the other children at the bus stop.  My husband walked with him and watched our little guy.  He watched him get in the line with the other children, he watched him step toward the bus, and then…then he watched his head drop and his body stop.  It was very difficult, but my husband got him on the bus and in his seat.  Then the bus drove off.  When my husband got back in the house, we both teared up in worry about our little boy.  Later in the morning, we received an e-mail from his teacher stating that he came in fine and that he was already making friends.   Throughout the week, we noticed that he did better each day as he walked up to the bus and then we knew as he said goodbye to us before he was supposed to walk to the bus that he had made it.

Many times in life, we are fearful and we do not want to walk through a door in front of us.  Where is that door taking us, where will we see our future if we walk through that door, and who will be on the other side.  When we look back over our lives, we can remember the times we walked through those difficult “doors” and found God.  God was there as we walked through in the form of new friends, acquaintances, and many blessings.  God was there as that baby went through the door.

Prayer:  God, thank you for doors.  Thank you for putting those doors in front of us even when we do not want to go through them.  Thank you for the not so obvious push you give us as we walk to the door and then for the love you show through the new friends we meet.  God, you are so good!  Amen.
