Ask and You Shall Receive

John 15:5-8

If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.

Thought for the Day:  As and you will receive those things that are asked “In His Name”

Over the past few days, I have been reminded many times about the desires of my heart and how I am to handle the gifts God gives me on a daily basis.  Today, as I read the scripture during my devotional time it directed my thoughts to the true meaning of “Ask and you will receive.”  It is easy to take that meaning out of context and to take it literally.  In that way it can easily be understood that any thing I ask God for will be given to me.  But then, as I study it a little more I realize that what the scripture is telling me is, “Ask for anything ‘in My Name’ and it will be given.”  Recently I wrote about using wisdom that God gives us to realize our desires.  This goes right along with that.  Through God’s wisdom and leading, we can ask for anything that will glorify Him and it will be given.  Now, that makes me feel a lot better about “Ask and you will receive.”  I cannot imagine what my life would be like if I had received everything that I had asked for.  But, I can look at my life through only the things I asked for “in His name” and see those as special and precious gifts from God.

Today, I continue learning about my relationship with my Father, God.  Today, I strive to listen more to God’s wisdom in making my decisions what to ask for, and wait for Him to answer in His remarkable way.

Prayer:   Father, You are our Father.  Help us today to hear Your voice, with all that wisdom that only You can offer, as we “ask” our requests of you.  Help us learn to ask for only those things that have been asked “in Your name.”
