Don’t Run Away

1 Thessalonians 5:24 (KJV)

Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.  Whatever God has called you to do, He is completely faithful. He will give you whatever you need to accomplish the tasks He has given you to do for His glory.

Thought for the Day:  God Equips the Called

In the reading of daily devotionals, today seemed to be the theme of hiding from God.  In the beginning, Adam and Eve hid from God and later Jonah tried to run away from God where he didn’t have to go where he was being led.  We know how both of the stories turned out, but what we get from these stories are examples for us to look at and try to understand.  Adam and Eve were embarrassed so they tried to cover themselves, hiding from God’s eyes.  Of course they couldn’t hide and God knew exactly what they had done.  Our example from that story is to remember that God knows us and there is nothing we say or do that we can hide from Him.  There is not even a thought we can think without God’s knowledge.  Then there is Jonah who ran away from God and ended up in a very bad place.  Jonah did not want to follow God’s calling because he was afraid to go where God was sending him thinking that the people were so evil they wouldn’t listen and that he was not a good enough speaker to speak the words God was asking him to speak.  This truly touches me where I am right now and I know I am not alone.  Many are being called in these days to go beyond our fear and to follow the calling of God.

So now what, what do we do from here?  First, we realize that we cannot hide from God and that when God calls, we should listen and follow His desire for us.  It really is better than anything we can imagine.  Second, we listen to the words of so many, “God doesn’t call the equipped, He equips the called.”  Jonah didn’t understand this or didn’t listen, but when he finally did, God equipped him with what he needed.  As I personally continue listening to where God is calling me, I am also realizing that in this moment in time, I might not know God’s calling for my future but I do know where I am right now. I know God holds my future and He holds my “right now”.  So, “God, I am listening….I am here….I am available….I am yours….Send me….Equip me for the now and for the future.”

Prayer:  God, you have placed so many examples in Your Word of people who have thought themselves weak, but have equipped them to do something great.  Today, please let your calling for us be clear and help us understand that You will equip us with what we need to fulfill that calling.  Calm our thoughts and let the Spirit move through us.  We are here, send us.  Amen.
