1 Corinthians 4-7, 13
Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things…
So faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Thought for the Day: God’s gifts of love are amazing
July 11, 1958, something pretty amazing took place. A little boy was born to Reeves and Mary Priscilla Locke. He had a personality that belonged only to him and through that personality has touched many lives. When he was less than two weeks old, he attended his first Joyner’s Campmeeting in Yum, Yum, Tennessee. That, I believe set in motion the life he was to lead and that God gave him the gift of song and music through the experience he had there. Since then, he has not missed a Joyner’s Campmeeting and he has been leading music there for almost forty years. I was fortunate and blessed to witness a few of his early years of leading music at that Campmeeting as my parents attended occasionally. Two years after my first husband passed away, my mother invited me to go with her to Joyner’s Campmeeting. She, without me knowing it, set me up. She worked out with the director for me to come and sing that evening. I laugh now, but I didn’t laugh then, that she had successfully set me, and the director, up in her big plan. My singing set in motion thoughts in his mind, and in mine, that we could be good for each other. I did sing, and within a few months the music director and I began dating and the next year we were married.
Happy Birthday, Mark Locke, the most amazing singer and song leader I have ever met. I feel it a crazy, awesome, loving privilege to go through life married to you. We have had our awesome wonderful times, and we have had our heartaches. We have had times of joy and we have had times of grieving. I feel it a huge loving blessing to walk through this life side by side with you. I feel it a huge loving gift that God has put us side by side to raise two precious and wonderful boys who put an extra light and fire in our lives. Most of all, I feel it a privilege to walk through this life side by side with you sharing in the ministry to which God has called us. We have both allowed God to lead us through life by remaining faithful to His call. And, His call is what brought us together on that summer evening in 1996. That was the evening my sweet Mark said to my mother, “I notice Donna is still wearing her wedding ring.” And the rest is history. No, the rest is not history. The rest has been a wonderful life and the rest of history continues as we follow Christ as He leads us the rest of the way.
Prayer: God, thank you for the gift of love. Thank you for calling us to the precious ones we are to spend our life with and are to be our constant companions. You know us and love us, and you call us together in the most precious ways. Help us each day to savor Your gifts and to never take them for granted. Amen.
