2 Corinthians 3:18
We, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His likeness with ever-lasting glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
Thought for the Day: There may be a reason for the wait.
So, today at church a couple of people asked me if I had heard anything concerning a new job for me and I, of course, had to answer that there is nothing yet. As time goes by, that gets harder and harder, but I know God has something out there for me. Who knows, maybe He is trying to open another door other than teaching. I simply do not know. As I came home from church something pretty amazing happened. I sat down and opened up my mother’s favorite daily devotional book, Streams in the Desert, and turned to today’s date. The scripture was from Song of Songs 5:6 where it said, “I called him but he did not answer”. Further into the reading I read the following: “No prayer is ever lost, or any prayer ever breathed in vain. There is no such thing as prayer unanswered or unnoticed by God, and something we see as refusals or denials are simply delays.” (Horatius Bonar) Later in the reading the writer went even further in saying, “Christ sometimes delays His help so He may test our faith and energize our prayers. Our boat may be tossed by the waves while He continues to sleep, but He will awake before it sinks. He sleeps but He never oversleeps, for He is never too late.” (Alexander Maclaren) That was pretty incredible, but then something even more incredible was coming. I opened another daily devotional book, The Power of Prayer, by E. M. Bounds, and turned to today’s date. “We need to give thought to the mysterious fact or prayer – the certainty that there will be delays and denials. We must prepare for and permit these delays and denials. The praying Christian is like a brave soldier who, as the conflict grows more severe, exhibits more courage. When delay and denial come, he increases his earnest asking and does not stop until prayer prevails. There can be no question about persistent prayer moving God and improving human character. If we were more in agreement with God in the command of intercession, our faces would shine more bright.”
Today, I feel encouraged that I have joined the millions who have gone before me who have prayed for their needs and had to wait on God. God is my life and God is my fortress! I pray that, in His time, He will lead me to the place He has planned for me. In the meanwhile, I am going to remain faithful and will remain steadfast in sharing God with others. I thank God for all He has done for my family and me, and I praise His name. God is faithful, all the time. All the time, God is faithful.
Prayer: Father God, thank you for giving us the words from scripture and the words from authors of devotional works that touch us where we are and give us encouragement to keep going. Be with us as we go through the trying times that we can remain full of patience and can remain faithful in our wait. God, you are so Good. Amen.
