Finding Passion in What We Do

Proverbs 19:20

Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom for the future.

Thought for the Day: God gives us wisdom for our future

Being asked about why I became a teacher brought me to a wonderful place today. I was able to share with the persons in the room that I love children and that I have a passion for watching them learn. I mentioned about my father in our last conversation when he asked me when I was going to return to teaching. As I spoke I mentioned all of my teaching positions, but I mentioned that I took off several years as we searched and worked toward the adoption of our child. After that baby came, we decided it would be good for me to stay home to take care of him. But after a few years, my daddy asked his question. I remember his reaction when I mentioned that I was thinking about getting my Masters Degree in Administration. I will never forget his reaction. He said, “No, we are losing too many good teachers to administration. I miss your stories about your kids – you have a passion for teaching.” At that moment, I walked out of the hospital knowing that I had to return to teaching and I immediately got a job teaching preschool music. Within a year, I was back in the public school system teaching second grade. My stories about the children came back and my love for them became even stronger. I am a teacher and I love the children I teach.

Whether my time answering questions today brings me a position or not is in God’s plan for my life, but talking about my passion gave me memories of so many special students who stand out as “my babies” who I will love and cherish from now on. God has blessed my life in so many ways and I cannot seem to express in my human words how blessed I am. Count your many blessings!

Prayer: Lord, thank you for giving us the passion for where You have placed us. Help us each day to see the blessings you have given us and help us be more thankful. Thank you, Lord, for the blessings. Amen.
