Peace Found on the Lake

Philippians 4:6-7

Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Thought for the Day:  God wants us to have peace

We went boating and tubing on a lake yesterday. The last time we went out was almost two years ago when our oldest tubed for the longest time and his daddy joined in his fun. That was right after we heard about our life change, so it was bittersweet watching him because we did not know what his future, our future, held. Yesterday was different though. As we got on the boat, we had peace and calm. The boys were excited and couldn’t wait to get on the tube. We rode awhile before “Mr. Ryan” found the perfect place for the “tubing action”. The boys got on the tube and for the next hour there was only laughter and fun. Later, after we got the boys back in the boat, we just rode. Cindy and I found our way to the front of the boat and sat, as everyone else got in the back to enjoy the ride. As we sat, we talked about her grown boys, the area around the lake, their new house, and the beauty of the day. I literally had forgotten about everything I needed to do at our house and at work, until close to the end of our ride she asked me when I had a certain event scheduled. I realized at that moment that I had forgotten every thought of the work I needed to do. Between the fun, the chat, and the laughter, all had been forgotten if only for a few minutes. I told everyone that this was the gift I needed for “Mother’s Day.” The gift of watching my boys have pure fun and joy was my gift wrapped in warmth and love.

God gave me a great gift yesterday and my husband enjoyed the gift as well. The stress of our positions at work are different from one another, but both of us get overwhelmed at times. When we finished our day, we both recognized how God wants our lives to be. For a few minutes, we had no care in the world and we know God was giving us a beautiful day. Today, and the next days to come, my eyes will close occasionally to feel the peace I felt as I watched my children enjoying their fun in the sun and then as I sat near the front of the boat taking in the warmth of the beautiful day. God wants us to give every care over to Him and yesterday we gave every thought over to Him. What a wonderful feeling!

Prayer: God, thank you for times when You remind us of the peace you want for us. You tell us to turn our cares over to you but we often do not do that. Help us to trust You more God where everything we desire and everything we do will be with You at the helm. Amen.
