1 John 5:4-5
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
Thought for the Day: Who is it that overcomes the world but he that believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?
Our son was nine years old as we attended Joyner’s Campmeeting three years ago when something spectacular happened. At the end of the service, he walked down to the altar to kneel and pray. When his daddy went down to kneel beside him, our son told him that he wanted to give his life to Christ and was ready. When his daddy knelt beside him and heard those words, he realized that our son had gone to the exact place of the altar area as when he was the same age making the same decision to give his life over to Christ many years before. Later that evening, he went to talk to the pastor who was the guest preacher for the campmeeting to let him know. We saw our child make the biggest decision of his young life and his relationship with God deepened in a powerful way. He still loves the pastor who preached and we make sure that every time we are at a conference with him that Nathaniel is able to see him. This year, he has participated in the Confirmation Class at our church and today he will be confirmed and will join the church. As we witness him entering into this phase of his life, we sit in wonder at who he is becoming and that his heart has been warmed in such a beautiful way.
It is amazing to watch God work, isn’t it. To see the heart of a nine year old warmed so deeply by our powerful God is amazing, and to witness the deepening of that faith day to day is beyond our understanding. As our son, along with the other young people, kneel to be confirmed and then join the church today we will witness God working in a powerful way.
Prayer: God, thank you for the miracle of faith and for warming our hearts in such powerful ways. Thank you for allowing us to see your miracles through seeing how You touch our young people and for letting us see them make their decision to follow You. Amen.
