Go Time

Matthew 25:21

His master said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much; enter into the joy of your master.

Thought for the Day:  How are we using the talents and abilities God has given?

“Today is GO TIME”, my husband said to me as we ended our meal.  I said, “I know, I have lived through about 38 or more “Go Times” with you.  My husband is a Minister of Music and Worship, and each Christmas and each Easter brings him into a time of high stress and high energy.  As we enter this time of Easter, with cantata preparations and many worship services, I watch him become very energized as he listens to the cantata cd and rehearses his conducting.  He spends hours preparing for the final rehearsals making sure he knows his music where he can direct the choir and orchestra in the way that will promote beauty and message.  I have always enjoyed his conducting and have loved singing in choirs under his direction.  Recently, I have been having vocal difficulties so I have been doing more watching than singing.  As I watch, I see the way the choir members respond to his leadership and am amazed during each piece the power and spirit that shines through them.  God gave him a special gift over 40 years ago when He called him into Music Ministry and I feel he has touched thousands through that ministry.  I feel blessed that I have been apart of not only his choirs, but that I have been able to observe his ministry from “behind the scenes” at “Go time.”
God gave my husband the talent of music.  Through all these years, he has trained his voice and has studied and learned to bring beauty to the music he directs.  As I watch him rehearse his conducting where he can bring the choir and orchestra to the place they need to be for Easter, I feel I am watching him increase his talents many times over to give his gifts to God.  Forty years ago, he humbled himself to become a director of music when his mother said, “Mark, I don’t think you can make a living doing that,” Today, he has taken that talent and has increased it more ways that he will ever know.
Prayer:  God, thank you for the “Go times” in life when we can really show you how we are using the talents you have given.  Help us realize how special those talents are and help us use them in the way you desire.  Thank you for giving us those great examples in life of those using the talents you gave.  Amen.

    1. Thanks, Elizabeth! You were a part of the “Go Time” and we are both appreciative. We have several at HMUMC who are Mark’s right hand people – I am so thankful for them. Tonight is the last choir rehearsal prior to the choir/orchestra rehearsal on Saturday morning. The cantata is Sunday morning! AHHHH – so excited!
