Dress Up

Proverbs 16:1-3

The plans of the mind belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord, All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirit.  Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.

Thought for the Day:  Put on your BEST for God

They came in dressed up as it was class picture day at our school.  The girls came in with their pretty dresses on, and I tied many a bow.  They boys came in looking nicer than normal, well, except for a few.  It is always interesting to watch and to participate in days when students are required in some way to “dress up” or to act differently than other days. As I watched, I recognized me in this a little.  There are days when I feel that I need to “dress” a little better and when I do I feel different in some way.  I feel I can accomplish more and that I am happier in my work.   On picture day, the students seemed to do better in their work and their conduct.    Then I asked myself, “When I dress up for God and show my best, how am I different?”
God is not worried about me in how I dress or what I look like.  However, when I put on my best for God, I seem to be able to do more for God.  What is my best?  My best is when I put on a smile and speak nicely to those around me.  My best is when I stand in my classroom door and welcome those children who pass by.  My best is when I give a hug to one who is hurting.  My best is doing something, anything, to show Jesus to another person.

Prayer:   God, thank you for “dress up” days when we seem to put on our best for you.  In living those days, we see ourselves doing more for others and being more like you.  Help us to remember each day that it doesn’t matter how we look, it matters that we “put on Christ” and give our best.  It matters that we show You to others.  Amen.
