Love one another with brotherly affection; out do one another in showing honor.
Thought for the Day: A simple word can bring love and comfort
“How are you doing?” Those were the words I read when I opened my Facebook yesterday. A dear friend wrote those simple words but when I read them those simple words meant everything in the world to me. When I wrote her back we started a conversation that brought me comfort and a feeling of love in that friendship. When I awoke this morning, I remembered her words to me and again I felt a peace and comfort. As I turned on my computer, I saw that she had continued the conversation which was such a blessing. Working with this friend for many years gave us a special bond and I began feeling she was a precious sister to me. As I read the message this morning, it was as if my own precious mother was asking how I was doing. Timing: I truly believe it was God’s timing that brought my friend to write me those words, those simple words, “How are you doing?”
Four words – that is all it took – to bring my heart comfort and love. As I thought about my experience in reading those words last night and the joy it brought, I thought about how many times I have missed simple opportunities to share Jesus’ love with others. Jesus taught us to reach out to others in love but sometimes we get so busy we forget. Today, I want to remember. I want to remember how special it was for me to receive that little four word thought, “How are you doing?” Today, I want to pass it on and offer someone else the opportunity to feel the love and comfort I felt when I read that message from a dear friend. “How are you doing?”
Prayer: Father, thank you for simple words of comfort and love. Help us today, to remember those who need a word of encouragement and to act on the thought. Help us to reach out to others as you taught, where we can bring a feeling of love and comfort. We love you, God. Amen.
