The Lost Pearl

Today, as I continue reflecting on our sermon from Sunday morning, I thought about this special moment with my mother and something she lost. This is a repost, but I thought it of the sermon this week of the Prodigal Son.  Thank you for your love and support of “Donna’s Morning Coffee”.

Luke 15:8-10

Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it? And when she has found it, calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, “rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost. Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Thought for the Day:  Rejoice, the lost has been found.

My mother, Mary Jane, had a special pearl ring. It was precious to her, but she let me take it to wear while I was at college. One day, I looked down to see that the pearl was missing. My mother was at the college that day with my brothers so I was able to tell her immediately that I had lost it and where I had last seen it. We looked for it together in the place I last remembered seeing it but it was not to be found. She was upset, but didn’t say much to me about it. Without my knowledge, my mother returned and began a search for that very small pearl, searching the entire fine arts building at the college. Her first search did not find the pearl. After that search, she found the custodian and asked him. He had not seen the pearl either. She then asked him about the vacuum cleaner and he told her the building had a vacuum system instead of one vacuum cleaner. To her, the task seemed impossible but she still did not quit. She asked him if there was a place that held the vacuumed dust and dirt. He took her to a room that held the vacuum system and she began searching. After some time, she found that pearl. Her excitement was beyond any imaginable feeling. She had found the pearl that was lost and she went to all measures in order to find it.

Isn’t this how God is? When He sees someone who is lost from Him, doesn’t he go out and search for them. How many times has God gone out to find us when we have been lost or confused in order to bring us back into His presence.

Prayer:   Father God, thank you for loving us enough to find us when we have wandered from You.. Help us seek out those who are in need of You and who need to hear Your Word from us today.
