I Find Strength and Joy

Isaiah 12:5-6

“Sing praises to the Lord, for he has done gloriously; let this be known in all the earth. Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the holy One of Israel.”

Thought for the Day:  Look for God’s presence to find strength and joy.

When I am tired and weary, I have found that seeing Jesus in the midst of where I am can be difficult as He is hidden in the negative thoughts and even though He is trying to come to the surface of my thoughts, I have pushed thoughts of Him back down. Over the past two weeks, our family has felt the pain of illness passing from one person to the other.  As these illnesses have come, so have my anxieties because somehow I have had to figure out what we need to do about the situation and how to be present for the person who is ill.  Today’s “Upper Room” devotional spoke of this type of situation and that although we tend to take the negative road when we are tired, maybe we should take the positive road and look more positively at where the situation has led us.  When I am tired and weary, I can find Jesus in the face of my ill child as he looks toward me with love when we have snuggle time.  When I am tired and weary, I can see Jesus face as I pray for Him to intercede to bring healing.  When I am tired and weary, I can see Jesus face as I lay down to rest at the end of a long day.  And, when I am tired and weary, I can see Jesus face as I awake to face a new day prepared by Him.  When I am tired and weary, I can either have negative thoughts as I go through my day, or I can have positive thoughts that He is walking beside me each step of the way carrying me when I am too tired to carry on.

I love waking up and reading my devotionals, especially when one seems to be written for exactly what I am going through.  The devotional I read as I awoke this morning did exactly that – it reminded me first that other people feel the same way I do when they go through similar situations.  But then, more importantly, it reminded me of how God wants me to go through the situation.  Today’s devotional reminded me that “Although the situation is not what I would have chosen, when I look for God’s presence, I find strength and joy.”  God wants each of us to look for his presence each day.  He wants us to find strength and joy.

Prayer: Dear God, as we go through difficult times in our lives, help us find positive thoughts and to see Your face in the midst of our situation. Help us recognize You in the faces of those around us, and help us look to You for strength and joy.  Amen.

Prayer Focus:  Those who are tired and weary.
