1 Corinthians 12:19-20
If all were a single organ, where would the body be? As it is there are many parts yet one body.
Thought for the Day: God gave us particular gifts – how will we use them?
You know them. I know them. We all have those people in our lives who we watch from afar who seem to shine Jesus light in all they do. When the church doors are opened, they are there. When an event happens that needs volunteers, they are there. When a problem arises with anyone in the neighborhood, they are there to help out where they can. In all they do their faces shine the love of Jesus Christ and takes us in to see their heart and in doing so shows us the heart of Christ. As I have read and listened lately to readings and conversations about being Jesus to the world, I realize the gift these people have and a part of me wants to jump in and become who they are. Then I realize that although I show Jesus to people around me with hugs, words, and prayers, my gifts are not the same as the people mentioned above. God gives us many gifts and although my mind watches these people with a thought of jealousy because I wish I could do what they do, I have to realize that God didn’t make me like them. God made me like me, and I am thankful for the gifts He has given me. Now the hard part begins….that is the part where we look at our own spiritual gifts, and not the gifts of others, to realize God’s plan for how we are to use those gifts.
Isn’t the Body of Christ remarkable? Let’s see, these friends mentioned above who are always present might represent God’s hands and feet to those around them. Some people are great speakers and might represent the brain and the mouth of Christ. But we must realize that the quiet and small parts of the body are also just as important. I am still working on figuring out exactly what part of the body I am in the Body of Christ, and it is probably one of those wee small parts somewhere hidden deep within, but I am assured through Christ that no matter what part I represent, I am still important in Christ’s Body and the Church.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for all those people who share You with us with smiles on their faces. We can see so clearly through them Your radiant face and look at them with great admiration. Be with us as we continue finding our own gifts and realize that we are all important in Your sight and we are all a part of the Body of Christ. Amen.
