Serenity

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Thought for the Day:  God brings us peace

After the snow had fallen during the night my youngest son and I walked in the wooded area behind our house. We walked by the creek and heard the serene sound of the water. We walked through the trees and heard only the sound of our steps rustling through the snow covered leaves and the breeze blowing the few leaves left on the tree limbs.  We were alone with nature and laughed a little along the way.  Then, I looked around and from where we stood maybe 200 feet from our house I could clearly see the backs of ten other houses in the neighborhood.  It was then that I began hearing voices of children playing and people talking.  As I thought about that experience this morning and as I talked to my husband, I realized that what happened on our snow walk yesterday happens almost every day in my life.  I begin the day reading and writing about my relationship with God and I pray.  Then, the hustle and bustle of the day begins as I drive to my work then continues throughout the day.  The serene sounds of my heart give way to the busy sounds of my daily life.

This is not what God wants for my life and I know that He wants the serene sounds to continue throughout my day.  Today, I venture into a new day and I pray that God will help me remember serenity in my heart and will help me remember that He is beside me to bring me peace throughout my day.  “God, please bring peace and serenity through the busyness of my day.”

Prayer: God, thank you for peace and serenity in the midst of life. Your reminder for us to live in peace with you is awesome.  Help us, Lord, to live in serenity with you today.  Amen.
