1 Corinthians 12:4-7
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of working, but it is in the same God who inspires them all in every one. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
Thought for the Day: What Spiritual Gifts have you been given?
This week’s scripture focus in church was about our spiritual gifts. God gives us the gifts of talents as we go through life where we can be equipped to bring people to Christ and to make up the body of Christ. Our pastor’s sermon recently mentioned some of the gifts as being the gift of gab, the gift of forgetfulness, and the gift of trying. The congregation giggled at the first two, but both made sense after he spoke. He spoke of the gift of gab as being in that person who greets new people at church by talking about everything the church has to offer as well as asking questions to the person to make them feel important. The gift of forgetfulness is in that person who does not carry a grudge or who can at least let go of a hurt. The third one, the gift of trying, is the one that our pastor stated is the reason our church is as strong as it is. People in our particular church are willing to try new things when the world tells us it is too hard. The most important part of the message on our gifts is that God’s gifts are Spiritual gifts. If we use the Spiritual gifts God has given they will be used for His glory.
One Spiritual gift that our pastor spoke of but was not mentioned earlier is a very special one and one that probably has touched me the most is in people who have it is the gift of Encouragement. These people are there, in the midst of success and struggle, to encourage us to keep going no matter what. These people, to me, mix the first three gifts mentioned together and then add love and prayer. Today, I reflect over all the people in my life who have offered me their gifts of encouragement. Today, I also look at my life and where the Spirit is leading me to use the gifts God has given me.
Prayer: God, You are awesome. You have taken simple people and have given them Your gifts of the Spirit in order to bring people to You and to fulfill Your work here on earth. Help us today to hear your call to use our spiritual gifts in the way that would bring someone to know You and to know Your love. Amen
