But now thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel; “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.
Thought for the Day: God loves us and we are His.
“You are Mine” is a hymn by David Haas that appeared in the United Methodist Supplemental Hymnal about 15 years ago. As I read devotionals this morning and our Church’s daily readings, each one was about God’s love for us and that when God said in Isaiah “You are Mine” He was saying that All of us are His. As I reflect on these words and the words in Isaiah 43, the memory of singing “You are Mine” in church comes to my mind. What a beautiful scripture set to music in a tune that is very sweet and easy to remember. “I will come to you in the silence. I will lift you from all your fear. You will hear My voice, I claim you as My choice. Be still, and know I am here. I am hope for all who are hopeless. I am eyes for all who long to see. In the shadows of the night, I will be your light. Come and rest in Me. Do not be afraid, I am with you. I have called you each by name. Come and follow Me. I will bring you home. I love you and you are mine.” Today, I want to sing this song in my mind as I go through the day, rejoicing that God has reminded me, once again, that I am His.
Reading the words to “You are Mine” this morning made me start thinking and then to start praying for those who are hurting and afraid for some reason in their lives. Often, I ask for prayers for those grieving and for those who are hurting and need God’s healing touch. Reading back over the words to “You are Mine” this morning, remembering the tune to the song, gave me a wonderful thought. If I get this song “stuck in my mind” as happens occasionally with other songs, then the thought of those needing prayers will stick with me as well. I will hear the words over and over, “I will call your name, embracing all your pain…Stand up, now, walk, and live.” What a wonderful reminder to pray for others.
Prayer: God, thank you for reminding us that You are with us through our fears and needs. We know You do not change and that we can always be assured that our faith in You is secure and that We are Yours. Amen.
