The Creek

Psalms 34:19-22

The Lord is near to the broken-hearted, and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the Lord delivers him out of them all.  He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken.  Evil shall slay the wicked; and those who hate the righteous will be condemned. The Lord redeems the life of his servants; none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned.

Thought for the Day:  Listen to the sound of the stream after the storm.  It is beautiful.

After a day of rain, I came home from work and began cleaning and straightening our house. My children were playing at a friend’s house and I was in our new home alone. As I worked I began hearing the sound of the creek as it flowed outside.  When I looked out I could see the most beautiful flow of water as it traveled down the creek. As it flowed the sound was overwhelmingly beautiful, more beautiful than I had heard before. Since we moved into our house two weeks ago, I had not heard the creek although I knew it was there.  After the rain, however, it made an almost overwhelming sound as I listened through an open window.

In reflection, I thought about life and the way we move through times of pain and grief.  After periods of crying and in the shedding many tears, we can look back and see that God has used those tears for something beautiful.   Personally, we have seen God take something Satan meant for harm, to create a special and wonderful beauty in our lives in a new place to live and new job positions.  We have also seen even more clearly the way God used our faithfulness through that time to bring us to a stronger spiritual faith in Him.  As the waters flow so beautifully after a period of rain, our spiritual waters flow after a period of hardships and pain.  Listen for the gift of flowing water as God leads you through the struggles and hardships of life.

Prayer: God, thank you for the rain. And thank you for the beauty of the refreshing water after we have come through the rainstorms in our lives.  Help us to always look back at where You have been with us and then help us look ahead to a beautiful, flowing stream of new life.  Amen.
