“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Thought for the Day: We are God’s reflection
Awaking in our new home, after two days of unpacking, was very relaxing. The rooms are becoming neatly put together and the pile of broken down boxes is getting higher and higher. As I worked in the house last evening, I noticed the street light reflection shining through a large window located above our front door. The reflection of the window shined against the wall making a beautiful picture. The reflection showed the shadows of the limbs clearly and beautifully. This morning, I awoke after the best sleep I have had in a very long time. I leisurely went downstairs, made me a cup of coffee, and sat down in our makeshift seating area in our great room. I looked up to see another reflection, but this time it was created from the sunlight shining on the great room wall up high in the corner. It was a perfect image of the window and I could clearly see the shadows of the limbs and more of the wooded area located behind our house. Even though I could not go out to write because it was cold, I was able to see God’s nature as He allowed it to shine on our great room wall.
As I looked at the reflection of the streetlight last night and then the reflection of the sunlight this morning, I thought about God’s reflection. Sometimes God’s image is as clear as looking into the true source of light. We look toward the sun or into a manmade light and can see clearly. Sometimes, however, we have to work harder to see it but it is always there. The streetlight and then the sunlight shining through the windows to place His beautiful picture on my wall was not the direct source of light. We, God’s children, are not the direct source of God’s image but we are made in God’s image. We are the source of God’s light that people see and our “not so direct” image of God we reflect to people. How clear is our reflection to those we meet each day.
Prayer: God, thank you for all of the people who have been Your reflection to us. Help us each day to show the reflection of your love and grace to others we meet. Help us remember that You called us to be your disciples and to show You to the world. Amen.
