For thou didst from my inward parts, thou didst knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise thee, for thou art fearful and wonderful. Wonderful are thy works? Thou knowest me right well; my frame was not hidden from thee, when I was being made in secret, intricately wrought in the depths of the earth. Thy eyes beheld my unformed substance; in thy book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was not of them.
Thought for the Day: Friendships are gifts from God.
My parents were special in so many ways but one that stands out in my memory today is how they had lifetime friends. Those friendships had the strongest bonds and I remember them well. My mother had a childhood friendship that began in third grade with Margaret Ann. When my mother and then her friend, Margaret Ann, each married special men, the men became best of friends as well. My Daddy and this friend were both Methodist United Pastors. They lived some distance apart, but there was always a special bond with the four of them. I didn’t know when I was younger, but my Daddy and “Bro. Frank” had a phone conversation every Saturday evening. This ended each week with a time of sharing the events of the week and it prepared each of them for their Sunday sermons. As the four aged, I enjoyed watching as their times together were full of laughter and special conversations. The “girls” giggled as I can imagine they did as schoolgirls. The “United Methodist Pastors” sat together discussing “world events” in more serious conversations.
As I look back on those special friendships, I think about how God placed two little girls together when they were eight years of age. We read in the scriptures that God knew before we were born everything that would happen in our lives. That means that God knew who these girls would marry and the special bond the two couples would have later in life. When I look back at my life, I see special friendships as well. I cannot say that I speak to these friends “every Saturday night”, but when we have a conversation it is as if there was no time in between. We just continue as if no time has passed. God knew the friendships I would and will make in my life. God brought us together in special ways and He brought us together at the perfect moments in the times He ordained for our lives. God has put me with the perfect friends at every moment of my life. That is an overwhelming and awesome thought.
Prayer: God, Thank you for the friendships you planned for our lives before we were born and the way those friends have played such an important part in our lives. The Christian friends you have placed have helped develop our faith and our relationship with You. Our friends are awesome gifts from you. Amen.
