The Beautiful Yarn

Matthew 5:16

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Thought for the Day:  Set your faith and love for Christ out for all to see.

My husband and I traveled to Scotland thirteen years ago and enjoyed traveling and singing in many beautiful places. One of the stops on our tour was to a store that sold yarns. Mark wanted to purchase two skeins of the yarn where we could have someone knit something special with it. Ten years after we purchased it, Mark took it to our church where there was a knitting ministry group and he asked if someone could knit the yarn into a ministry stole. Unfortunately, since the yarn had been tucked away for so long, it was brittle and could not be used. As I read a scripture about showing our light to the world and not “hiding it under a bushel”, the thought of the yarn came to me. We thought we were keeping it safe from harm as we tucked it away, but in doing so, that beautiful yard became unusable and was never seen by anyone.

How often do we do the same thing in our lives? God gave us talents, faith, and examples of sharing His Word with others but what have we done with that? God wants us to take our talents and use them for His glory where people who do not know Him will begin to know Him through the things we do.   God wants us to put our faith in Him on a pedestal for everyone to see and not to hide it in a closet or in the darkness. God gave us examples of people who shared His Word throughout the Bible and throughout our own lives to give us the knowledge of how to show our faith. As the knitting ministry group took another skein of yard to make stole that can be placed for people to see, let us take the gifts that God has given and set them out for all to see. Who knows, our talents and faith might bring many to Christ – we just have to “Show It” to others.

Prayer:   God, thank you for giving us opportunities to show our faith to others. Help us put our faith and our love for You out on a pedestal for all to see. You are awesome, God, and we want to shout that fact to the world. Amen.
