A Thousand Fireworks

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Thought for the Day:  God is waiting for us to say “Yes!” to His love for us.

Christmas Eve 1996, a day I will always remember and will always cherish. I had started dating a gentleman a little over a month earlier and spent time at a Christmas Eve service. After the service, we went to his house where we could have our Christmas gift giving time together. Unexpected to me he got down on one knee and pulled out a small package, and of course in the package was an engagement ring. As we sat near a beautiful Christmas tree lit with beautiful lights, Mark asked me to marry him. I, of course, said, “Yes!”, and the “festivities began”. In the next few minutes, our time together went from calm to “Christmas music playing (loudly) and 1000 crackers going off in the street in front of his house. In that moment, I saw and experienced the love shown by a man in love and I felt a love through his craziness that I knew would last a lifetime. Today, I read about being thankful to God. Today, I have been blessed for all of these years to have the love of a wonderful man. I am thankful to God for my wonderful husband – he is a true gift.

As I read a devotional this morning about God’s love for us, and the way He poured out his heart to us, I was deeply touched. God, as my devotional stated, “could have chosen to satisfy His love only within His triune nature, or with angels, or with another created order of beings, but He chose us”. God was and is excited about the love He has for us and maybe, if we listen real close, we might be able to hear those 1000 firecrackers go off when he receives the “Yes” from us that tells Him that we love Him.

Prayer:   God, thank you for loving us in Your very special way. You took us in and You made us Yours. You are an awesome God and You have shown an awesome love to us. Help us understand that love a little more today where we can share that love with others. Amen.
