Recognizing God in Everything

Acts 2:21

And it shall be that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Thought for the Day:  God sent His Holy Spirit to all, even you and me.

It has been given, It is available, It is waiting, It is yours, It is mine. Many years ago, in Biblical times, God seemed to be selective in who was sent His Holy Spirit. In my devotional reading this morning by Chris Tiegreen, he mentioned that early on in history God sent His Holy Spirit to a selected few but it was not available to everyone. I had not really thought of that much before, because as I child I learned that the Holy Spirit is available to all. I cannot imagine living in a time when I did not feel the Holy Spirit and know God was there with me. In Joel 2:8, the prophet Joel prophesied, “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. Even upon the menservants and maidservants in those days, I will pour out my spirit.” That prophesy was made known on the day of Pentecost by Peter as the Holy Spirit entered everyone present. Today, as I remembered as a child, the Holy Spirit is available to everyone.

So, what does this mean to us today? Do we observe God in all that takes place around us and recognize Him or do we take it for granted and let Him stay hidden. Throughout the past year, my thoughts and prayers have changed as I have recognized God’s hands in more of what is going on around me and in my life. But there are still many times that I don’t recognize Him clearly. Today, as Chris Tiegreen said, “Make this your most persistent prayer request: “Holy Spirit, show Yourself in my life. Let me breathe Your breath, see with Your eyes, feel Your feelings, think Your thoughts, speak Your words, and hear your voice. You’ll be amazed at how lavishly He pours Himself out for you.”

Prayer:   God, Thank you for sending Your Holy Spirit to walk with us each moment of each day to remind us of your love for us. Help us to recognize You in every moment of every day. Amen.
