God So Loved the World

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Thought for the Day:  We are God’s Children

“For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” As a child, this was one of the first Bible verses I learned in Sunday School Class. As I reflect on this verse as an adult, I try to find the deeper meaning and what it means in my life today. In my reflection, I realize that as I look into the heavens I can see many stars and many planets, so to think that God sent Jesus here to earth to live among us is incredible. Jesus lived and walked here on this earth. Jesus was born as a human baby and lived as a youth just as our children live today. He lived as an adult, just as we do. Jesus was seen by angels and known as God’s Son. Jesus preached and brought many people to God, angering leaders and Satan. Jesus went to trial through betrayal and deceit, and died a human death on the cross. Jesus, however, was raised from the dead and was later taken up into glory.

So, what does this tell us about His relationship with us? This tells us that we are children of God. God sent Jesus to walk among us to teach us that we are loved by God and that we are God’s children. He told us that Jesus has gone to prepare a place for us with God in Heaven. In my life, I have been taught that I am a child of God, but as an adult I realize that my life should be lived in a way that I bring more people to know God and to know they are also God’s children. I live this Christian life on earth knowing that one day I will go home and live an eternal life with God, the one who loved me so much that He sent his only Son Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for me.

Prayer:   God, thank you for loving us so much that you sent your only son, Jesus Christ, to live on the earth and then die on the cross for us. Help us live as He taught us and teach us how to bring more people to know they are Your children. Amen.
