God’s Desires for Us are Bigger than Our Desires

Psalms 119:1-2

Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart.

Thought for the Day:  God’s plan for you exceeds your plan

Desires, desires, desires. Today is one of those days when all of my devotionals and Bible readings are based on the desires of our lives. As our family is going through the transition to move to a new place, we are looking for a new position for me, a home to live in, a place that can be special for our children and many other areas of life for our family. We have in our minds a set idea of what is to happen: I am to find a teaching position where I can continue in the profession I have been in for over 27 years. My boys are to become students in a wonderful school system in the town we are moving to. Our family home is to be one that has what we need as a family with room for the boys to run and play. These are the desires of our hearts and we have prayed for such. Today as I read my two devotionals based on the same idea, I read “Instead of asking Him to fulfill you according to your hopes and dreams, ask Him to fulfill you according to His hopes and dreams. It’s a pretty sure bet that His plan for your life exceeds yours, and in the end it will be more satisfying than you ever dreamed. Trust Him with your heart. He knows exactly what it needs.”

As I read this and recognized that it is true – God’s plan for us is better than anything we can imagine. However, I am human and the human mind tries to figure things out and tries to set plans. My heart wants to pray for God’s will, but my mind wants to decide what we need. As difficult as it is, today I pray for God’s desire for my family will become my desire and that I will recognize with clarity where His desire is leading me. I want what God desires for me.

Prayer:   Father God, as we make decisions today on what our day holds or what our future holds for us, please lead us with full clarity. We know you have desires for us that will fulfill us in ways we cannot imagine but we let our human minds get in the way. Thank you for your presence with us to help us discern the desires you have for us. Amen.
