Another Plan

Romans 15:23-25

But now, since I no longer have any room for work in these regions, and since I have longed for many years to come to you, I hope to see you in passing as I go to Spain, and to be sped on my journey there by you, once I have enjoyed your company for a little. At present, however, I am going to Jerusalem with aid for the saints.

Thought for the Day:  We can all depend on God to give us a Plan B when Plan A falls apart

Fourteen years ago, my sweet husband and I moved to a new town where he could minister to the people as their Minister of Music and Worship. We purchased a house that we planned on living in through retirement because the ministry was so perfect for us and we felt we would be here for the rest of our lives. I got a teaching position and planned on retiring from that at the proper time. We had our plan set and knew that God had led us to the perfect place. But, as happens, that dream was taken away and our plan was severed. It took a long time, but we found ourselves in a situation where God led us to a new ministry somewhere else and we now find ourselves in a time of transition to another state. Mark is now the Minister of Music at Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church and the children and I are trying to get there to be in ministry with him. Our perfect plan, Plan A, as my devotional reading stated this morning, had fallen to the side, and Plan B has taken its place in our lives. As I look ahead to the time our family will all be together in our new church, I already feel that the Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church is our new church home and that we have already been accepted fully.

We do have our plan, don’t we, for where God is going to lead us in our lifetime, but our plan is not God’s. Do I believe that our Plan A was where God led us? Yes, because our ministry in Plan A was a wonderful one. Do I believe that what happened to us to end Plan A was God’s desire for us? No, I believe it came from somewhere else but that God allowed it to happen. Do I believe God has ordained our Plan B? Most definitely! God’s Plan for our lives may take us to new places as it took Paul many years ago, and will fulfill the desire God has for us.

Prayer:   God, help us to grow in our faith by learning Your teachings. Help us to find new and creative ways to share Your Word with the world. Help us to teach, especially our precious children, how to be Your storytellers. Amen.
