God Answers Desperate Prayers

Psalms 86:7

In the day of my trouble I call on thee, for thou dost answer me.

Thought for the Day:  God hears desperate prayers much like a parent hears their children’s pleas.

“Dad, I am in trouble and I do not know where to turn.”; “Mama, I need help….I don’t understand this math homework and ‘she’ didn’t explain it very well.”; “My tummy hurts.”; or “I am trying to make decisions about my future and I can’t do it by myself.” As a parent, all of these sound familiar and all of these are desperate calls from our children as they go through difficulties. How many of us, when our children plead with us to help or say they don’t understand life would turn away and not do anything? I would guess that none of us would turn away. Most of the time, we would sit down with our child and try to offer some type of solution to a problem or would at least give comfort. And, some of the time, we might have to give a type of tough love where we have to let our children go through something on their own – which is very hard to do – but is the best solution.

Our Father wants us to come to Him when we are desperate, just as we want our children to come to us when they are in need. I pray a lot and I ask God for “A LOT”, but today I read something that truly touched me. It said, “The Bible urges us to call on Him in the day of trouble. That’s why it NEVER implies – not even once – that He will not respond to His children.” My devotional went on to read, “Desperation puts us in perfect position to see the merciful God who saves and restores.” Today, I am desperate for answers to prayers I have in my heart and I am going to share how desperate I am with God. I can’t wait to see how He responds. God is listening – even better than when our parents listen to us.

Prayer:   God, I am desperate today for You to enter my life and help me in my areas of need. You know my every need before I begin praying, but I come to you today to offer them in a heartfelt prayer.  God, I am desperate for you today. Amen.
