Falling Leaves

1 Peter 5:7

Cast all your anxiety on God because he cares for you.

Thought for the Day:  The falling leaves make way for new blessings.

Many of my friends and family travel during the fall, whether it be a time of fall break trip with their children or just a time of being together. I will hear people say, “We are going to take a trip to New England to see the leaves changing”, or “You are going to love the drive to East Tennessee, the leaves will be beautiful.” And, our favorite time to take family pictures out in nature is during this beautiful time of year because of the beautiful colors. There is that window of time when the colors of God’s nature are beautiful in the change. That window is not a long one and before long those beautiful leaves start falling from the trees to bring in the next season when winter comes. There is a sadness that comes over us at that point when we realize that beauty is gone.

During my devotional reading recently, I read a beautiful devotional about those falling leaves that touched me. The writer shared that as those leaves fall, they are making room for the beautiful green leaves that will be taking their place in the next season. If we think of those falling leaves as burdens in our lives that we need to let go of and think of the leaves that will take their place as new blessings, we can be thankful. God gave this devotional to me this morning at a time when I need to let go of a lot of burdens in this season of change for our family. And, I know as I let go of those burdens that God’s blessings will take their place.

Prayer:   God, thank you for letting us see colors in the changing leaves, falling leaves in autumn, dormant leaves in winter, and glorious green leaves in the spring. Thank you for the devotional writer who wrote in a beautiful way to help us realize better how to let go of burdens to make way for blessings. Amen.

  1. Donna I fully sympathize with the “what to keep, what to give away” and I will pray for your peace in the process. It is hard for me to even clean out a useless desk drawer. SC
