1 Corinthians 13:13
So faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
Thought for the Day: The Bridegroom loves us completely
My parents attended the same college during their freshman year. My mother’s first remembrance of my father was that they were at a party and my father was acting very silly. My father’s first remembrance of my mother was that she was very beautiful and very quiet. Later they began talking and she told him about her father’s illness with lung cancer. He became very compassionate to her, even driving her often the three-hour drive to visit her father as he was in the hospital. Through those drives, the “silly farmboy” from the country and the “prim and proper young lady” fell in love. As I think today about the bridegroom and how much God loves the bride, I think of that pure love between my father and my mother. My father felt that my mother was the most beautiful person he had ever met and in marriage he held her in the highest regard. Even through the many hardships they had, he always recognized her strength and compassion. My mother continued feeling that my father was silly, but she held the highest respect for him as he became a minister helping him as she could. The demands on both of my parents were difficult but they always held each other up with full respect and love.
As I reflect on the relationship between my father and my mother, I also reflect on the relationship I have with God. God loves me in a way that no earthly being can imagine, as a groom loves his bride. Then I reflect on how I love God and how I show that love to Him. I respect God much in the way I respected my earthly father with some fear and much love. But do I love Him with my whole heart. That seems to be a huge question for me today. Today, I will strive to be a better bride to God as well as to my earthly husband.
Prayer: God, thank you for loving me as a groom loves His bride. No matter what, you hold me close in love. Help me be a more loving bride to my husband, and help me always keep your love for me in clear sight. Amen
