And I am sure that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
Thought for the Day: God is working on us every day to bring us to “Completion”.
My son, Nathaniel, has loved to complete LEGO sets since he was very young and can take all of those pieces that are poured out of the packages and make something complete. One of those sets given to him when he was six was a Star Wars set with over a thousand pieces and was made for children ages 10-13. It was summer and Nathaniel was bored, so I just said, “What about us setting you up in the dining room to work on your Star Wars Millennium Falcon LEGO set?” I knew it was a huge set and would take him several days, if not weeks to finish. He was very excited and went in to start on the project. Throughout that day, I cleaned and did things around the house that needed to be done not thinking a lot about him but checking in occasionally. About six or seven hours later he came into the kitchen. I thought he was going to ask for a snack or that he was coming in to take a break. He said, “Mama, can you come here a minute.” I went into the dining room to see a full LEGO Millennium Falcon made for children much older than Nathaniel, completed and sitting on the table. He showed me every section of the ship explaining the characters inside the ship and what each section did. I was amazed. He had transformed those 1200 little plastic pieces into one fantastic Star Wars ship in just a few hours.
As I read my scriptures this morning speaking of the transforming work of God in us. I thought about all of the many pieces each of us have as we begin thinking about how God wants to use us. God has an image of all of us much like my child had an image of what his ship was going to look like. That image looks like Him. God then begins the “good work” in us and continues working with us to “completion.” It’s strange to imagine ourselves as completed children of God but God does know what we are going to “look like” and will work in us until He is finished.
Prayer: God, thank you for reminding us today that we are your children and you work with us every day to bring us to completion to be like you. We know it will take a very long time and we will fall short, but we know you love us and will continue working on us. Be with us today to visualize what you want us to be and let us know you are with us every step of the way. Amen.
