So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are built into it for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
Thought for the Day: Open the Doors and See all the People
I love to watch as buildings are being built. I don’t know where that fascination comes from, but I love watching to see the foundation being prepared, the studs being placed just right, the roof being erected, the bricks and mortar creating the beautiful outside walls, and the final touches being brought in such as landscaping. Over the past many months I have watched as a Presbyterian Church has been built around the corner from where we live. My precious children have heard me excitedly tell them, “Look, they poured the foundation!”, “Wow, look at those men up on those laddars and walking across the top as they are roofing”, “They are putting the steeple on!”, “They are landscaping today – It must be getting close”, and “I see that they have walls and even a TV in place in the Narthex.” Last night, as we drove by we saw a few cars in the parking lot and thought they must be having meetings about the opening of the church. A few minutes later, we drove by and the parking lot was filled with cars. I pulled out my phone where I could Facetime my husband. I drove around the parking lot with the video running and then pulled up to the front. There were people in the sanctuary and many walking through the halls. All of the excitement of seeing the building being built had nothing on the excitement when I realized it was open and that there were many people inside worshipping God. Remember “Here’s the church, Here’s the steeple, Open the doors and ‘see all the PEOPLE.’” The building was not the church until the PEOPLE came. That is the best news for that congregation and a wonderful message for me.
God has opened a church and the people have come. Now it is time for those brothers and sisters in Christ to go into “God’s House” and celebrate Him.
Prayer: God, thank you for the celebration of the opening of a new church building. Help those people who have worked so hard to plan for this special time see Your message being brought each time the doors are open in Worship and in Ministry. Amen.
