Love one another with brotherly affection; outdo one another in showing honor
Thought for the Day: Out do one another in showing honor and brotherly affection.
My brother, Ricky, was handicapped from an early age and confined to a wheelchair. He loved life, sports, family, and he loved me. During my last summer quarter in college where I needed to take one more course to graduate, Ricky was at home with my parents with his body weakening by the day. We all knew that his time to go home was near. But, I had to finish my college work so I had to be away. Throughout my college career, I struggled in my classes and was concerned about one of my grades and if I would be able to graduate. I was concerned enough to go to one of my college professors to confide in him that I was concerned about my grade. I shared with him about my brother and that my summer quarter had been spent in worry and concern about him. I left his office feeling better, but still concerned about my grade. A few days later, after I had gone home, I received a call from that professor telling me that I had passed his class. That call not only told me that I had passed his class but that I would be graduating in the coming weeks. I told my family, including Ricky, and we celebrated. The next morning, during the early hours, my dad came in to tell me that Ricky had passed away during the night. There is a part of me that believes that Ricky held on until I had accomplished something that was very important and very hard for me before he felt he could go home. God gave me that time with him to celebrate before He brought him to His side to celebrate in Heaven.
Today, I celebrate Ricky and the love he had for our family and for me. He was a very quiet person but had a compassion for life. I am thankful that he loved me enough to hold on where he could celebrate a huge accomplishment in my life, and I celebrate that the next morning his biggest accomplishment had happened…….”Walking” into Heaven to meet Jesus and to celebrate with my brother, Coble.
Prayer: God, thank you for the love of family. Help us each day to love and cherish every moment with our precious ones. Be with us as we go through our days to show your love to them in the way we should. Amen
