Crazy for God

Jeremiah 19:13

You will see me and find me; when you seek me with all your heart.

Thought for the Day:  Seek God with your whole heart

As a young girl traveling the country with my family in the 60s and 70s, I was so blessed to see things that most children have not had the opportunity to see. I was, however, a child and then a teen that did not take everything as seriously as someone older. We visited all the states seeing many monuments, national parks, and campgrounds – KOA Campgrounds. Now, looking back I wish I had taken it more seriously and that I had learned all I could learn about those places. I remember the fear I had as we visited Yellowstone National Park. We walked the paths around the hotpots and geysers, and I remember the sulfur smell. Then, my clearest memory was my thinking my Daddy was crazy, yes I said crazy, as he stuck his hand into one of the hotpots to see if it was really hot. And yes, it was hot. I, however, stood back embarrassed that my Daddy was doing this in front of……..other people who were watching (Oh, the terror). Now, I realize that he was experiencing, not just viewing, the hotpots. And, as I remember him from those early years I realize that he experienced life in a spectacular way all the time and he continued that craziness throughout his lifetime.

My devotional this morning was based on Jeremiah 29:13, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” In my life I know I have accepted Jesus as my personal Savior and know He is with me. But is my relationship with God as deep and as strong as He wants it to be? Am I being satisfied that I am a Christian and that I do the things that God would have me do on a daily basis? What do I need to do to experience God more where I can have that deeper relationship with him? And, what am I willing to do to show that I am “Crazy…..wanting to be closer to God.” My Daddy had it right, and I admire his “Craziness” in experiencing life with God.

Prayer:   Father God, thank you for devotionals that remind us that we need to continue working on deepening our relationship with You. Help us work to experience you more as we go through our day. Amen.
