Out on Our Own

2 Chronicles 15:4

But when in their distress they turned to the Lord, the God of Israel, and sought him, He was found by them.

Thought for the Day:  Coming back to God is just a prayer away

My brother, handicapped with Muscular Dystrophy, was given the gift of an electric wheelchair. The independence it gave him was enormous and we were all very thankful. One day, that independence led him to leave the house without telling anyone where he could experience our neighborhood. He did wonderfully for a few minutes, taking in the freedom of being on his own. Then, one of his wheels became caught in a hole in the street. He worked and worked to get free but could not find the independence he just experienced. After awhile he was found and was able to return home. How often do we do the same thing? We decide to go a different direction from God’s leading and at first we feel wonderful independence and think there is nothing better. Then, in a jolt, we find ourselves stuck in a place that is full of fear with very little peace. We long to be back in His arms and the glorious truth is that as soon as we ask Him back into our lives, He is right there. Then we remember that He was beside us through our entire ordeal, we just had to accept Him as our comfort and help.

Prayer:   God, help us realize that you are with us all the time. When we stray from you, please help us remember that our true peace comes when we follow your will for us. Amen.
