The Books of the Bible

1Timothy 3:14-15

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings which are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

Thought for the Day:  Teach children from the sacred writings of the faith.

I have a wonderful friend who is very talented in music. He has directed children’s choirs, created sets for plays, and has accompanied children’s choirs including playing for my choir for many years. One day he noticed that I was diligently looking for something on the internet and he asked me what I was doing. I said, “The Children’s Department has set a challenge for the kids to recite the Books of the Bible and I want to find a song that will teach the children and I can’t find one that works.” A couple of days later, I received a phone call from Mr. Steven saying, “I have a song that I have written to teach the Books of the Bible to the children, and I would like you to hear it.” I listened and it was wonderful. He understood how children learn things so he created unique tempos and tunes for each section of the Bible. When he sang through the song for the kids, they became excited and couldn’t wait to learn the song. The first week, he taught the Old Testament Books then followed the next week with the New Testament Books. By the third week, most were singing “The Books of the Bible” flawlessly. The Children’s Ministry leaders were amazed when after only a month of the challenge that was intended to last the whole year, many of the children in the children’s choir recited (sang) the Books of the Bible for them. Mr. Steven’s song had done something amazing for the children and even today I find myself singing the tune as I look up scriptures during my devotional time.

As Steven’s ministry helps teach children in their faith, so should we find our talents to teach others in the faith.

Prayer:   God, thank you for those adult leaders we remember from our childhood who helped form our faith, and thank you for those who lead out children in their faith journey today. Amen
