Love Through a Funball Goal

John 13:34-35

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Thought for the Day:  Showing love leads others to Christ.

“Nooooo!”, we all yelled as we saw our students on the playground shooting playground balls into the Funball goal. An oddly shaped ball had been thrown into the goal and was stuck which kept the other balls from going through. One after another child threw the balls into the goal thinking it would push the stuck ball out, but more and more met the same outcome, “Stuck!” Six of the seven of us sat and watched the situation unfold and then went on to watching the other children around the playground forgetting about the ball situation. But one of us, Mrs. Caldwell, took it upon herself to figure out the problem and to get the balls out of the Funball goal. We looked up to see her on a chair with a long stick, trying to push the balls back up into the entrance of the goal. She tried and tried, and then one after another ball shot back out of the top freeing the goal for more fun play. This very loving and amazing teacher went into action to give these children not only their goal back for play but a precious memory of a second grade teacher who went over and beyond the norm for them because of her love for teaching and love for children.

The visual in my mind of Mrs. Caldwell using a stick to push those balls out of the goal will remain with me for a long time. She is one I have always admired for her willingness to jump in to do things that the rest of us wouldn’t do easily. She shows love, that precious love that God calls us to show. That love that lets everyone know how special they are. Isn’t that how we should all do – show love to others where they can see the love in us, that love that will bring others to Christ.

Prayer:   God, thank you for bringing teachers into our lives who love us and show Your love through the things they do. You have called all of us to show Your love where in showing that love we can bring others to know You. Thank you for great examples. Amen

  1. Donna….I really appreciate you and wanted you to know that I read your devotional every day. This one is special. It made me think of the “one liner”….People don’t care what you know, ’til they know that you care. My mission…To show love wherever I go so others will want to know HIM. Teachers are so special….what they say and do can last a lifetime.

    1. Thanks, Mrs. Nelda! I agree totally. I still remember the teachers who formed something special in me and I just pray that I am that to my students. Connie is definitely the type of teacher who will always be remembered by her kids. God is amazing to put these people in our lives. Have a beautiful day filled with love.
