Give My Daddy a Kiss

Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; be not frightened, neither be dismayed; for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (RSV)

Thought for the Day:  God is with us through the changes in our lives

I have been experiencing a change in my children over the past week that has made me feel clearly that God is in our transition in life. My husband began a new position in a church in another state leaving several days ago to take his place there. I was fearful, in a way, about how my children would handle him being gone and nervous about their emotions and acceptance that their Daddy was away. On Sunday of this week my youngest, Jonathan, said a prayer at lunch. He said, “God, I love you, thank you for our food. And God please send this ‘kiss’ to my Daddy.” Of course, my eyes filled with tears. I realized that this five year old did indeed understand about his Daddy’s situation. After my oldest, Nathaniel, prepared to go to bed after his first day of Middle School, he said, “I want to tell Daddy about my day.” So he called his Daddy and was able to talk to him and share with him about his schedule and how excited he was about the year. Hearing them talk together offered me more solace in our transition. My boys, who have always seemed to “fall apart” when their Daddy was out of town have shown that they can handle what is happening in our lives. God was obviously showing this nervous mother that He was in control and that the boys were going to be okay during this time.

When God, “busted down the door” in our lives to give my husband, Mark, a wonderful position in a church I questioned a lot as I still do about how the transition for the boys and me will work. However, witnessing His hand in the way our boys are handling their Daddy being away, is “busting down the door” to my fears as if to say, “I told you that I have this – it’s going to be okay.”

Prayer:   God, thank you for giving us what we need to handle situations that are placed in front of us. Help us always look for your hands to lead us through and to help us trust that “You have this.” Amen.
